What is it?

The course introduces managers to the skills, roles and activities of successful management consultants. Using a blend of theoretical framework and practical application participants gain an understanding of how management consulting may affect business performance and survival.

The course will be co-taught by Professor Christopher Forde, Calvert Markham and Dr Ali Naqvi.

Christopher is Professor of Employment Studies. His research is in the areas of employment studies, HRM, employment relations and labour economics and has received funding for his research from ACAS, BIS, the European Parliament, the International Labour Organisation, and the Home Office.

Calvert Markham has been a management consultant for most of his career and has trained thousands of consultants from hundreds of organisations around the world. Calvert is also a former Chairman and President of the Richmond Group (a consortium of independent management consultants) and is a Past Master (and Father of the Livery) of the City-based Worshipful Company of Management Consultants, of which he was a founder in 1992.

Dr. Naqvi is an adjunct faculty associate at the Business School. He is the Managing Director of Avlon Europe where he is primarily responsible for strategy development and execution in the Europe region.

This course is a module on our Executive MBA programme. However, the course is not formally assessed and is not credit bearing and, as such, does not lead to a qualification or institutional credit.

Who should attend?

Participants on the course need to have a minimum of 3 years' experience in a leadership or management role. It is meant for individuals interested in exploring a role in consulting, existing management consultants and for those who manage consultants.
