We provide a variety of services for businesses.

Services to Businesses

Leeds University Business School seeks to develop and expand the University’s relationships with the corporate and public sector through the formation of long term partnerships and collaboration. We can offer you access to the extensive knowledge base, skills and expertise of the University of Leeds.

Today’s organisations face unprecedented economic, social and environmental challenges. Yet, at the same time, such organisations have been compelled to slim down and rationalise their staffing and resource base. This means that support and assistance from outside the organisation are increasingly required. There is growing emphasis on the development of partnerships and alliances which can harness external resources to organisational need. A world-class university such as Leeds has the resource and expertise to deliver an effective knowledge-based partnership for client organisations.

There are a number of ways in which the Business School can help your organisation, including:

Director Net

The Director Network for regional SMEs.

Providing practical and solution focused learning tailored to the needs of SME Directors and decision makers, this network will allow you to identify and discuss your challenges and decide how to respond.

Organisational and Staff Development

Working closely with partner organisations, we work with you to identify your needs and develop workshops and programmes to address organisational issues.  We offer bespoke education at all levels, ranging from short courses to full degrees.  Corporate programmes are highly interactive, with workshops and practical exerises linked to reflection and feedback.  Courses can lead to recognised qualifications and can be offered on campus or in the workplace.

Research and Consultancy

Leeds University Business School is a research-led school and its research teams are amongst the best in the world.  We have research centres covering all the major business disciplines including Accounting and Finance, Economics, International Business, Management, Marketing, and Work and Employment Relations.  A substantial proportion of our research is undertaken through partnership and collaboration with organisations and we play a full part in government-funded schemes to increase university-business interaction such as Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and CASE awards.

Access to Networks and Facilities

A partnership with Leeds University Business School offers your organisation access to a variety of networks and events to share experiences and knowledge with like-minded people with similar organisational needs.  We run a number of networks and events both on a local and international level, from which you and your company can benefit. The University also offers excellent facilities for conferences and seminars and partner organisations frequently make use of these to host their own corporate events.

Recruit Students for a Placement

At the Business School we give undergraduate students the opportunity to do a work placement between their second and final year of study. Students are required to find their own placement, either by applying to a corporate scheme or by writing speculatively to employers. This gives them valuable job seeking skills, ensures they find a placement that meets their interests and results in only the most committed and enthusiastic students taking the placement year.

Advantages of our placement scheme to you as an employer:
• Our placement students are highly motivated and well qualified
• Placements can be advertised at no cost to the employer
• The decision to employ a student rests entirely with the company
• A 9-12 month placement creates the opportunity to assess potential employees without long term obligation
• Companies have an employee who is committed to developing his/her skills throughout the placement

Students are expected to complete a portfolio (in which they reflect on the skills they have acquired and developed and provide evidence of their work). Their progress is also monitored by a workplace supervisor and a brief assessment of their skills is made at the start and end of the placement. A member of our staff visits the company and student once during the placement to make sure everything is going smoothly, but contact is maintained throughout the placement in case any problems should arise.
