Experience

Chee Wong is a professor of supply chain management at Leeds University Business School. Prior to this, he held a chair in logistics and supply chain management at Hull University Business School. He teaches logistics, supply chain and operations management at undergraduate, MSc, MBA, PhD and executive levels. He has also more than nine years of industrial working and consultancy experience in operations, purchasing, production, inventory and distribution management and supply chain design with SMEs and multinational companies specialised in beverage, retail, consumer goods, toys, engineering, metal production, and polymer distribution.

His research interests lie in the areas of supply chain integration, sustainable supply chain, third-party logistics, global/ethical sourcing, and operations strategy. He has published more than 70 academic and practitioner articles, including high quality journals such as Journal of Operations Management (JOM), International Journal of Production Economics (IJPE), Supply Chain Management: an International Journal (SCMIJ), Production Planning and Control (PPC), International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management (IJPDLM).

Professor Wong currently held or previously hold the following academic appointments: editorial board members of the International Journal of Business Performance and Supply Chain Modelling (IJBPSCM) and European Management Journal (EMJ); external examiner for Plymouth Business School’s UG Marine and Logistics Programme; programme leaders University of Hull’s BSc supply chain management and MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management Programme; and external examiners for PhD dissertations.

Research

Professor Wong’s research focuses on answering a key question “How can firms achieve responsible and sustainable competitive advantage in the inter-connected and uncertain global supply chains?” Attempting to answer this question he is researching the following topics:

·         Drivers, antecedents, and contingencies affecting sustainable supply chain management and firm’s sustainable performance;

·         Contingencies and configurations of supply chain integration and coordination;

·         Enablers and mechanisms to achieve supply chain integration and alignment;

·         The competitive advantage of third-party logistics service providers;

·         Global/ethical sourcing and global supply chain operations management;

·         Reverse and sustainable logistics solutions.

Professor Wong is currently working on an ESRC/RGC(HK) funded project “How Partner Firms Coordinate Their Environmental Management Practices? Green Supply Chain Integration and Its Performance Implications” (www.greensupplychains.org). At the University of Hull, he led the “Humber’s Future Economic and Sustainable Development” project and the HEIF project on “Strategic Drivers for the Humber Offshore Wind Supply Chains: Enabling UK SMEs’ Participation”. He supervised a KTP project with Plastribution Ltd. He completed a CILT Seed-corn project called “A study of plastic recycling supply chain.” He also contributed to the Interreg IVB “the North Sea Region Food Port” project.

Teaching

Professor Wong teaches the following modules at Leeds University Business School. He also delivers customised supply chain management training courses for C-level executives and managers.
