Bill Thomas has 30 years' experience in IT services and has developed an expertise in leading complex organisations to deliver large-scale projects for clients. He was Senior Vice President at Hewlett Packard and General Manager of the EMEA region for HP Enterprise Services. In this role he integrated successfully and ran EDS (Electronic Data Systems) and HP’s European outsourcing business. This formed the service arm of the world’s largest technology firm, delivering information technology, transformation, applications and business process services to a wide range of clients spanning all industries.
For seven years he led the EDS EMEA business, most recently as Executive Vice President and served at Board level as a Corporate Officer and member of the EDS Global Executive Committee. In addition he chaired EDS’s global Government and Defence business. With annual revenues of $12 billion, 58,000 employees and a geographic footprint of 36 countries, EMEA was EDS’s largest region, and was consistently the fastest growing. During his tenure the EDS EMEA business grew its revenues by 6% per annum, profits 20% per annum and total sales by 19% per annum.
Thomas is retired and is now the Proprietor of Hopton Estates, a historic house with shooting estate and holiday business. He is a Non-Executive independent Director of XChanging plc, the business process, technology and procurement group. He is also a Non-Executive Director of GFI Software SARL, a leading supplier of software to SMEs and a Non-Executive Director of a pre-IPO business process outsource firm.
As a Defence and Business Advisor to the Labour Party, he led their study into the reform of Defence procurement and Chairs the Small Business Taskforce. He Chairs the International Advisory Board at the Cranfiield School of Management and sits on the Advisory Board of Leeds University Business School.
