  • 2009-Present: Lecturer, Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds
  • 2006-2009: Researcher, Centre for Organisational Strategy, Learning & Change (COSLAC), University of Leeds
  • 2006: Research Officer, Centre for Inclusion and Diversity (CfID), University of Bradford
  • 2005-2006: HR Analyst, Wm Morrison Supermarkets Ltd

Following her graduation she took up a role as an HR Analyst at WM Morrison Supermarkets, where she was involved in a range of projects that related to their recent merger with Safeway. This experience fuelled her fascination in organisational change processes and organisational behaviours, and so eventually she decided to return to the world of academia, to try to integrate some of this ‘real world’ experience with organisational theory and research.

In 2008 Helen was awarded ‘Chartered Psychologist’ status by the British Psychological Society, and in 2009 became a Lecturer in the Business School, where she teaches in the Management Division, and is a Tutor on the Work Placement Module. Helen remains actively engaged in research through the Centre for Socio-Technical Systems Design (CSTSD), and the Centre for Organisational Strategy, Learning and Change (COSLAC). In conjunction with her current research she has recently embarked on a part-time PhD to further her interest in work teams.

Helen has held a number of advisory and consultancy roles, and has worked with many leading organisations including Rolls Royce Plc, Jaguar Land Rover, DePuy International (a Johnson & Johnson Company), Marshalls Plc, The National Health Service, The Commission for Racial Equality and Arup.

Helen graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2003 with a first class honours degree in Psychology. She spent a year working in industry in a range of marketing roles before embarking on a Masters degree in Occupational Psychology at Nottingham University for which she was awarded a distinction.

Research

Helen worked as a Researcher between 2006 and 2009. Her research interests are diverse, and have ranged from health and safety issues, to green behaviours in the workplace and matters relating to inclusion and diversity. Much of her most recent work has explored issues arising through team working in multi-team systems in organisational and sporting contexts, using methodologies which have ranged from organisational network analysis to agent based modelling and simulation. She is particularly interested in how social and technical aspects of an organisation can influence team working processes and team member behaviours.
