The databases available to the Accounting and Finance Division have been specially selected to provide a platform to deliver excellence in teaching and to support world leading research. We maximise the benefit of our database facility by providing students and staff with easy access to the knowledge of how to use databases effectively.

Databases available
Bloomberg

Bloomberg provides current and historical financial information on individual equities, stock market indices, fixed-income securities currencies, commodities and futures for both international and domestic markets. The database also provides company profiles and financial statements, analysts’ forecasts, news on worldwide financial markets and audio and video presentations by key players in business and finance

Creditsafe

Creditsafe provides Leeds University Business School Accounting and Finance Division users with a unique dataset that provides extensive coverage of UK and European firms including company financials, company credit reports and information on firm directors.

London Business School Database (LSPD)

The London Business School Database provides the longest available time series of UK firms’ share price data.

Fame Database

The Fame database offers comprehensive data coverage of over 7 million companies in the UK and Ireland. Users can use the database to research individual companies, this includes searching for companies with specific characteristics in order to build up detailed financial information for analysis.

Bankscope

The Bankscope database provides extensive worldwide coverage for over 28,000 banking institutions. Data is typically available going back over 16 years for the majority of banks.

China Stock Market and Accounting Research (CSMAR)

CSMAR provides a wealth of data on Chinese companies and Chinese financial markets. A number of different databases are available within CSMAR, including databases that provide data items including analyst forecasts, M&As, equity prices, and information on company directors.

Thomson One Banker

Thomson One Banker provides access to global financial data including company accounts, scanned filings and annual reports, shareholder data, M&As, equities, bonds, syndicated loans and earnings estimates. In addition some basic country level economic data is also available. An Excel plug-in makes it easy to extract data using over 200 pre-built charts and reports. Data, in most cases, goes back over 20 years.

Wharton Research Database Systems (WRDS)

WRDS is a unique platform that provides access to numerous databases under the WRDS umbrella. LUBS subscribe to a number of important additional databases including Compustat and CRSP. In addition to these, a number of additional databases are also available. These include ‘Bank Regulatory’, ‘Blockholders’, ‘Chicago Board Options Exchange’, ‘CUSIP Master Files’, ‘Direct Marketing Education Foundation’, ‘Dow Jones’, ‘Fama French’, ‘FDIC’, ‘Federal Reserve Bank Reports’, ‘IRI’, ‘Penn World Tables’, ‘Philadelphia Stock Exchange’, ‘SEC Disclosure of Order Execution’ and ‘Trace’.

Compustat

Compustat offers US and Canadian fundamental and market data for more than 30,000 active and inactive publicly held companies. The databases offered, provide thousands of Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows, and supplemental data items. Also available are indices, industry segments, bank data, market prices, dividends, and earnings data.

Centre for Research in Security Prices (CRSP)

CRSP provides the most comprehensive collection of security price, return, and volume data for the NYSE, AMEX, and Nasdaq stock markets. Data is available at various frequencies, including daily.

SNL Financial

The SNL Financial database covers Banks and Thrifts, Financial Services, Insurance, Real Estate, Energy and Media & Communications. Coverage includes more than 3,300 public companies and over 50,000 private companies in North America, with international coverage expanding every year. SNL Financial offers greater detail and depth compared to other comparable databases. A host of customisable analytical tools are available including valuation, peer and M&A models are offered. LUBS users can use either the web based interface or an Excel Add-In. SNL also provides powerful mapping tools which allow users to look at the spread of bank deposits and market share for example.

Lexis-Nexis

Lexis-Nexis is an excellent source of news information; offering international newspapers, trade publications and company information. All articles are available in full text and are easily searchable.

Thomson Reuters Institutional Brokers Estimates System (I/B/E/S)

The Institutional Brokers Estimates System (I/B/E/S) database provides historical forecasts from securities analysts for more than 18,000 companies worldwide. A number of different data items are available including long-term growth forecasts, earnings per share, stock recommendations, revenue and cash flow.

Thomson-Reuters 13F Ownership Data

Thomson-Reuters 13F provides institutional ownership data compiled from 13F company reports filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The database provides the details of institutional managers who manage more than $100 million in Assets Under Management ((Section 13(f) Securities)). Data is available from 1978.
