Students from Leeds University Business School recently attended an evening event with the Young Management Consultancies Association (Young MCA).
Students from a wide range of disciplines attended to hear from panelists, including representatives from leading organisations Arup, PwC and EE Consulting.
Industry experts provided an insight into a typical day in the life of a management consultant, top tips for getting into the industry, and advice on recruitment.
Zhiqi Fang, studying MA Human Resources Management, was impressed at the insight he gained and was delighted to have expanded his network.
“The presentation from the experienced and dedicated Young MCA was an eye-opening experience for me,” he said.
“It was also an excellent chance for me to build up my network with the consultants and hear their understanding about what consulting is.”
Joseph Broscombe-Adams, an MSc International Business student, was pleased to hear from a cross-section of consultancies.
“The broad spectrum of firms, from Big Four to boutique, represented at the event enabled me to make a comparison of the types of work undertaken by management consultants in different segments of the industry,” he said.
“This will help me make a more informed decision as to where I want to apply in the future.
“While networking with the representatives, I was able to gain a better understanding of the day-to-day workings of a young management consultant.
“This has better framed my understanding of the job role.”
