Dr Ian Greenwood, Associate Professor in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management, co-authored the report 'Steel 2020: Forging a Future for the British Steel Industry' for an All-Party Parliamentary Policy Group on Steel and Related Metals. The report was published in January 2017.
Peers praised Dr Greenwood’s report during a debate in April about the future of the UK's steel industry. During the debate, the importance of the UK's steel industry to the national interest was noted and the urgent need to provide support to the industry emphasised.
Lord Brookman, the Labour peer, said: "I was impressed by that first-class report, which was research and drawn-up by Dr Ian Greenwood. It would be worth the while of everyone who is interested in the future of manufacturing and the steel industry to read it carefully. Dr Ian Greenwood's work is first class."
A report of the debate is available here.
Dr Greenwood is a member of the Business School's Centre for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change (CERIC).
The 'Steel 2020: Forging a Future for the British Steel Industry' report concludes that steel is a 'key foundation industry' which is crucial to the renaissance for British manufacturing. Reforms to the trading and regulatory environment are essential if a cutting-edge industry is to thrive. A copy is available here.
