Dr Clacher quoted in Yorkshire Post article

Associate Professor in Accounting and Finance, Iain Clacher, was quoted in a Yorkshire Post article on 18 April about the effect the General Election could have on the region.

The article looks at the opinions of leading business figures in Yorkshire. Jonathan Oxley, the Chairman of the Institute of Directors in Yorkshire, commented that the General Election must reinforce momentum towards regional devolution, while Andrew Wilson, Senior Investment Director at Brooks Macdonald, suggested that during campaigning various political parties may be forced to reveal their plans in regard to Britain’s exit of the EU.

Dr Clacher said:

With the Brexit process and the most important political and economic negotiations the UK has ever had now underway, Theresa May has a number of domestic political challenges that could impede the negotiations….The slender majority she currently has in Parliament is problematic….Nobody truly knows what leaving the EU will look like, nor what the costs or benefits will be, and so anything that brings a little more certainty for markets will be seen as a good thing.
