Business School alumnus George Sotiropoulos (Advertising and Marketing 2005) has been announced as winner for a prestigious British Council alumni award celebrating the outstanding achievements of the UK’s international alumni in Greece. George was a finalist for the Entrepreneurial Award and was announced as the winner at the ceremony on Wednesday.
The British Council Alumni Awards 2017 celebrate and recognise the achievements of individuals who have studied at a UK university and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education. Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, professions and countries. This year, award ceremonies will take place in 14 countries globally.
George was shortlisted from a large number of high quality applications from UK university alumni across Greece. Only 9 alumni were selected as finalists through an extremely competitive process. All nominees can be found here.
The British Council in Greece honoured the selected 9 finalists and announced the winners of the three award categories on 2 March 2017, at a prestigious ceremony in Athens. Professor Jimmy Choo OBE, Global Ambassador for British Council Alumni Awards was in attendance as guest of honour and presented the awards to the three winners.
George studied at Leeds University Business School, after gaining his BA in Mass Media and Communication in Greece. As co-founder of “Linkwise”, George has built the biggest affiliate network in Greece, successfully bringing new, innovative tools and services to the market.
"I'm very grateful for this award. It feels great to have your achievements recognised. We started Linkwise right before the crisis in Greece, a very difficult time to start a business, so I'm very happy that we've made it so far!
I'd like to thank the British Council for this recognition and of course the University of Leeds for giving me the foundations for the path that I followed."
